I managed to get up to the house in the seat today – went great on the ice roads, just have to keep going and use the handbrake. Going home it was quite foggy down below. Unfortunately the fog concealed a tractor on the bridge which I spotted too late.

As I said, the seat goes great on the ice roads………..stopping’s a different matter

Snow and ice(22Dec09)

It’s Bex birthday today…………….We decided to try and get up to the house nice and early – have tried for the last 2 days but no Joy because the roads were just too bad. Never experienced unpassable roads like this for such a long period. We decided to go the long way round, limerick way because there are more main roads. The back roads were still solid ice.

We still didn’t get all the way, but the chickens needed feeding so we decided to walk the rest. It was actually quite good fun…

Ice and snow and hungry chickens(21Dec09)

We are having a seriously cold spell at the moment and due to zero grit or salt being laid on the back lanes, only the main roads are useable.

Tried to get to the house twice today with Josh. First in the Ibiza which was doing great until the car in front went too slowly up a hill which brought us to a stop. Then the bloody thing ran out of fuel – lukily when we turned around facing down the hill there was enough fuel to get us started.

Next tried the Galaxy – went a different way and again failed on a hill. There was a load of mud where someone had hit the hedge, so I stupidly slowed down. the Galaxy came to a stop, then slid backwards, turned 180 and we were back facing the way we came. Nothing I could do…..

Hope the chucks are ok!

We’ll try again tomorrow.

Well, not much to show – carried on with the plaster boarding downstairs. Very cold up at the house.

Have also been putting the bathroom suits back in and sorting out the downstairs toilet.

Generally trying to tidy the place up…..

Peter managed to finish all three bathrooms – they are on their way home tomorrow.

Now I just need to refit the bathroom suits and we can use the loos…….

Peter has started tiling the bathrooms upstairs.

incidentally I do do stuff, just nothing worth taking pictures off. The electrical work is finally finished and we should be connected soon. I also sorted out the well pipe which was leaking at the no return valve.?á Took me virtually a whole day to remove the pipe, fix the joint and prime the pump….there is a never ending list of jobs….will it ever end?

Here’s our woodburner – hopefully it will heat the lounge and rooms above. When we have central heating we will probably move it into the Barn.

Stairs are finished – what a difference it makes………

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

Peter has been working on the stairs – they look great.

Stairs progress(01Dec09)

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

The stairs are coming on well.?á The kitchen ceiling is finished and we have made arrangements for the polishing filter work to be done.

Hopefully the consumer unit will be fitted tomorrow which should make the electricity connection imminent….in theory. (haven’t managed to get hold of Kieran the electrician yet to confirm)

On the negative side (always a negative) the generator packed up yesterday and could cost hundreds to fix. Luckily Christy (our neighbour, great guy) has lent us a generator which should tide us over. Bit of a blow because the generator was an asset we were going to use to raise money as soon as the electricity is connected.

The end of the year is looming with so much to do and its soooo cold with no heating. It is hard to believe that this year will end in 30 days. We don’t seem to have found a spare minute the entire year and I think i’ll be glad when it is all over.?á It never seems to get any easier

Here’s the pics –
