Kitchen partition(17Nov09)

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

I started the partition wall in the Kitchen today. First I put 2 layers of plastic over the old wall and cemented the bottom to anchor it down. Then I added insulation, and finally plasterboard. (Dodgy mobile phone pics!!)

Pics of the varnished window sills, we have light!! and our chicks ..

I have been plodding on with the wiring. Needed to drill a hole out for the earth and alter a lot of the kitchen chasing because we changed the layout. I still need to drill out the connection to the meter box and the outside lights, plus the armoured cable for the Bio Tank which I forgot about.

Sue and Bex carried on with the Varnishing upstairs – all window sills are now finished – I will update with photo’s.

I did some research and discovered that if flight holes appear in the timber then it could be problematic. The flight holes mean that worms have pupated and exited the timber as adults. They now live for a few days and lay eggs on the timber. The next evidence won’t be visible for anther 8 months to 1 year.

The life cycle of woodworm is that eggs are laid and hatch – the worm tunnels through the timber for up to a year, living of the cellulose, then tunnels out as an adult having left a network of tunnels in the timber.

Basically if the holes are recent then the timber was fitted with woodworm in it.

I need to find out if the holes are live – it could be that the timber has already been treated and the holes are left from before treatment. However, there was a partial hole which I cut out and found a beetle inside – I couldn’t tell if it was alive because it was so small. I have decided to circle all the holes in a section of timber and see if more appear………

I hope I can resolve this because I cannot slab the ceiling until I am sure it is safe to do so.

I took some pics for reference.

Electrics – Downstairs first fix(12Nov09)

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

Not much to show except a bunch of wires, but all the cable is now in place for the downstairs wiring, including the mains to the meter box. (about 600 meters of cable at least!) All done this evening 7pm-10pm.

Electrics – Upstairs second fix(07Nov09)

Saturday, November 7th, 2009

Kieron the electrician was here today 0900-1500 and did the upstairs second fix. I misplaced the long screws and 2 gang switches so a few bits left to do. Also need to wire in the light fittings. (We have a few wall lights and spot lights). For some reason it makes a huge difference just covering up the holes in the walls.

I carried on with the chasing out downstairs assisted by da Josh….never ending job……
