I got up to the house nice and early with the idea of clearing the top/side of our land as we still have the machine – I felt progress was good – removed a few trees and got the machine right up to the rock face of the old quary. The picture doesn’t really show it too well. I then tried to attack the same piece of land but from the back of the house via the mound of earth. Took me ages and again I’m not sure if it is progress or I just made a mess. I also took some pictures of the front because I forgot yesterday.

The final pipe(30Oct09)

Friday, October 30th, 2009

Unfortunately my day was screwed up today so didn’t get a lot done. had to take Sue and the kids to the airport, then search around the scrap yards to find a radiator hose for the car. Eventually got to the house at about 1pm. I attempted the last remaining rainwater pipe – got it all in place but struggled to finish in the dark – eventually gave up at 9pm – it is very difficult to assemble pipes on your own and not being an expert digger driver it took me a while to clean up the trenches I had dug. (I has to uncover the road drain to insert the rainwater pipe)

Pipes almost finished(29Oct09)

Today was great progress again – we virtually finished the front of the house and its a real transformation. I didn’t have my camera when we finished in the evening, but it was all levelled out and wackered flat. I still need to go over a few hundred times with the wacker tomorrow but can’t wait to finish…..The photos are in time order.

Getting Dryer(28Oct09)

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

We had a great day today. The rain held off and the back of the house was transformed with all the stone we added. It just needs to be wackered down before concrete or slabs are laid on top.?á We also dug the trench?á (well, Christy did) and put in the ESB conduit to the electricity pole. Tomorrow we will tackle the front.

Sloshing around in the mud(26Oct09)

Huge amount of progress today I think. All the foul drains are in at the back and also most of the storm drains.

Today was the worst weather in about a month, blowing a gail. pouring with rain and generally unpleasant. Good job we decided today would be a good day to re- start the sewerage then…………We did make some progress. Mostly by Christy because I manged to do something to my back (convenient you might think) but Josh was also great chipping away with the mini Kangol and helping Christy. Anyway, by the afternoon a few pills had almost fixed my back, it stopped raining and the first few pipes were in the ground. We did have a minor snag as you would expect – Christy left me to pack stones around the newly laid pipe and I manged to put the spade through it. It took me, Sue and Josh about an hour to separate the broken pipe and replace it. Next time I won’t be using the irish spade because I can’t be trusted with sharp objects. Good old english spade for me – I know my place….. Episode two is on Monday.
