Potential Disaster (29Jan09)

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

We havenÔÇÖt been up to the house for a couple of days, but I had a call from the Builder yesterday saying that the Barn wall had collapsed when they were trying to put the windows and doors into it, but they have already laid concrete footings ready for it to be rebuilt. We went up to look. In reality it will be a better wall but it worries me that we are not preserving enough of the existing buildings. To prevent the same happening on the other wall we have decided not to cut the two windows out, but will use roof lights instead. When we got to the site, the replacement wall was virtually rebuilt except for the stone cladding.

Block Laying Day Four (16Jan2009)

Friday, January 16th, 2009

Because of the new drains at the rear and the fact the site slopes, there is a lot of mud building up below the house. We will probably make a small lake/pond eventually. For now the girls seem to to like squelching around in the mud…..
